In 2021, Netflix, its Con Todo vertical, and The Light NYC tapped myself and my creative partner Nick Ducassi to create “Go Off With Jess & Julissa,” a new digital comedy show starring Jess Marie Garcia (On My Block) and Julissa Calderon (Gentefied).

From writing and directing to producing and editing, we made 30 sketches over 12 hilarious episodes and catapulted seasons one and two of Go Off to millions of views across Netflix and Con Todo’s YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok channels.

  • Designed for virality and shareability, the series and its sketch cutdowns enjoyed 25+ million views across Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and TikTok Live.

  • Promoted titles including Stranger Things, Bridgerton, You, Money Heist (La Casa de Papel), and Selling Sunset.

  • Sketch and short formats include trailer and commercial parodies, character sketches, 2-D animations

  • I co-led a creative team of over 75 writers, production crew, and post-production crew.

Shot entirely on green screen, Go Off combines thousands of original and pre-existing content assets from the vast Netflix library to deliver lightning-fast, visually dazzling comedy shorts and sketches that promoted (and roasted!) Netflix’s films, series, and the streaming platform itself.

I served as creative director for several campaigns to promote and market U-Health Jackson Children’s Care (Pediatrics), heading up a team of creatives and producers from pitch to final delivery, including copywriting, direction, producing, editing, and client management.

From longer-form comedic sketches (2-3 minutes) to short-form (under 1 min) unscripted videos, our branded campaigns spanned both style and substance.

In the lead up to the 2022 midterms, I was tapped by Gutsy Media and their sister organization Wake Up & Vote to serve as a writer and consultant for a series of political campaigns focused on critical local elections in key swing states. Our aim was to combat voter disinformation, highlight democratic policy successes and rally voting enthusiasm through comedic content.

Over the course of three months, I worked with a team of a dozen writers and producers to conceive, develop, and pitch concepts for :15, :30, and :60 spots, specific to five different battleground states. From gubernatorial and senate races to congressional and statehouse races, our concepts led to over 86% of our candidates to win or retain office.

As a bilingual Mexican-American copywriter, part of my mission was to craft the concepts and campaigns to specifically target Latino voters. From their cultural and religious specificities and their relationship to American identity and politics, I carefully tailored our message to speak to Latino voters in the most effective ways.

Since its inception in 2019, I’ve served as creative director and writer for The Avocado, an LA-based satire outlet (think “The Onion,” but with way more parking tickets). From writing articles and politically/culturally relevant sketches I’ve been an integral part of our three-person operation.

Along the way, I directed and co-wrote a full-fledged sketch series, which was produced in partnership with the James Beard-award winning publication L.A. Taco. We called it: GUAC BOTTOM.


GUAC BOTTOM


The Guac Bottom trilogy showcased my trademark sense of humor, pace, and creative sensibilities - and served as the launchpad for the Netflix sketch series that I showran the following year.
